Mix N' Match Mondays: Bronze and Silver

On Mixing Bronze and Silver:
  • The silver charms have been distressed showing the darker metal underneath
  • This creates less contrast with the bronze chain
  • A long-sleeve henley gives a white backdrop for the necklace to stand out
  • A distressed coat with studs match the necklace and create an urban feel
  • And a beanie adds warmth
Get the look:

There's a lot of stigma around mixing silver and gold/bronze jewelry but I say leave that stigma behind and do it. I mixed two charms (a silver ring + some sort of tooth) and with a bronze chain. The look works because I got the charms from a Guess necklace ($35) and the chain from my old roommate but I'd make one for less than $20 with charms and a chain from Michael's Craft Store.

To get the distressed look, keep the charms in your pocket or bag with your keys and let them get knocked around. The distressing process should wear away polishes, bits of metal and could take a while.

Comment below with what unlikely pairings you wear! :)

I'm Wearing

Sweater, Shirt and Shoes by H&M
Jeans by Bluenotes
Jacket by Bianca Nygard

Old man winter seems to be moving aside for some warmer weather! Leaving the heavy winter coats behind and trying a more feminine silhouette, I grabbed my Mom's coat from and headed on a photo shoot.

A brown or beige coat can be so versatile in getting through the winter spring transition. Not owning one, I got creative and borrowed a earthy brown wool jacket to offset the light blue and beige while brown accessories keeps the look together.

Horizontal stripes are great for men because the lines give the illusion of a broader figure. Tapered pants give the body a "v" line while the tighter fight of the pants will direct the eyes towards your shoes.

Styling Tips:

  • Clothes will usually tell you what looks good with it. You just have to check the lining and what colours are on the clothes themselves.
  • The light blue inside the stripped shirt tells you to wear it with a blue in a similar shade

Colder Weather and Longer Jackets

KNOLL

I'm Wearing:
Chelsea Boots by Kenneth Cole Reaction / Hudson's Bay Company
Trench Coat by HBC / Hudson's Bay Company
Dress Shirt by Merona / Target
Sweater by Urban Planet
Dress Pants by H&M
Gloves by Danier
Socks by Roots
DIY Scarf

Styling Tips:

  • Pair an army green with a shade grey
  • A beige scarf goes well with anything (most outfits)
  • White dress shirt + Black pants = Timeless combo
  • add a(n) _______ coloured sweater = easy ways to swap outfits

The black and white pant and shirt combo is a timeless one. You can swap out sweaters on top of this look for so many different looks that are easy and stylish. With the release of 50 Shades of Grey last week, I paired the army green trench coat with a sweater in the darkest shade of grey I own. Army green and any shade of grey is a colour pairing I love to resort to. I add wear a beige scarf (because beige goes with everything) to match the colour of the coat buttons for those extra windy days and dress the outfit up with a sleek winter boot.

About:

Target became one of my favourite places to shop in 2014. So with their withdrawal from Canada, this post focuses on my favourite piece from their stores - the green bear printed sweater. In my opinion, their clothes and sweaters were cheaper than my usual H&M ($35 vs. $25), felt equal in quality if not better, and their styles were refreshing to see - I mean who uses a print of a bear head wearing a knit sweater? The bear is so stylish, I want what it's wearing.

So how do you wear it? Well I took the colours I associate with Earth and chose to pair the forest green with a denim blue and light beige bringing this piece together with black details from top to bottom. The straps on the jacket adds a nice touch and a black knapsack to boot since I'm a student and would wear this outfit to school.

Dress it up by wearing proper fitting beige trousers (mine are too long) and going with a sleek boot or dress shoes and a jacket made from higher quality materials such as down or fur.

About:

I took a combination of neutrals that are always in style (dark grey, beige and white) and paired it with a big maroon scarf to add a focal point and colour to a combination that is otherwise "simple and commonplace." Finish by pairing the outfit with a more rugged boot to match the coarse texture of the knit fabrics and a watch to bring "timelessness" to the outfit - pun intended.

Winter demands knitwear and warm sweaters but the jacket is light so wear this outfit on mild winter days to school and casual social events.

Dress up this outfit by switching the:
  • Light fabric jacket for a heavier grey peacoat
  • Big maroon scarf for a slimmer one in camel brown or black
  • Rugged boots for a sleek chelsea boot
  • Add a classic black or maroon tie under the sweater
Avoid a knit tie and wear a black tie with a shined finish to bring contrast to the knit and a luxurious feel to the outfit.
